NZ SERVICE PROJECT 2014

7:09 AM

just got back a few days ago from kiwi land and by the way I did not see a single kiwi bird. Are they only in zoos? Australian grass really is ugly. After coming back from New Zealand where literally everywhere you go (even the highway) has a huge block of land full of hills beside it.

Anyway, the main reason I flew over to nz was because I did a service project with a few of my other classmates. We've been planning this project since last year and our stay there for 8 days literally just flew by. This trip involved long car rides, lots of roundabouts, Burger King, rain, snow, wind (real wind), but most of all serving others. We were divided into 3 groups- a holiday program for kids, interactions (involving helping disabled facilities), and a refugee holiday program. To me this service project was like an opportunity for us to take advantage of helping others- not only those whom are less fortunate but also simply those who are around me. I not only miss the green grass, peaceful scenery, random flocks of sheep but mostly the children that I got attached to in the time span of 2 days. As a matter of fact, I wanted to force a kid to be my friend so when we went rollerblading I took that time to win his friendship. By the end of the week, I managed to get him to be my friend (although he could never remember my name). Most of the regfugees were Colombians so they were quite limited with the English (and the boy that i forced to be my friend kept mocking my english). I'd never been so active and energetic in such a long time and these kids not only helped my physically (fitness wise) they really helped me to appreciate what i've been given in life.
